I don't know about anyone else, but does spelling matter to you? I guess I'm OCD about spelling. I find myself reading blogs and cringing when there is a misspelled word. I try very hard not to misspell words, and even use the spell checker before I post. Do misspelled words give the impression that the author either doesn't know what they are talking about, or is not very intelligent?
I went through my school days, and college under the gun about spelling. Points were lost for misspelled words. My son brought home his report card several years ago, and I wanted to scream! There were three misspelled words on the printed report card form!
On the other hand, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae.
The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
Fcuknig amzanig huh?
It's amazing how the brain works isn't it?

I've seen posts about that study for quite a while now. And sometimes I do care if there are tons of mistakes spelling wise. But if it is occasional I usually chalk it up to quite typing and no editing. I know I am guilty of that myself. But I do make mental notes about it.

I can totally relate. I'm pretty anal about spelling as well. I literally get upset when I see blatant errors at time.

I am the same way. Spell check freak. I blame it on my mom, she is a retired teacher. She taught a little over 30 years and taught first and third graders.

People who spell wrong should not be allowed to live.

lol, now that's funny. Odd really how it does work, the mind takes in the whole without totally analysing the parts, interesting stuff.

I think spelling matters -- although I think those of us who cringe at misspellings are a dying breed. Blogs -- or any written content for that matter -- that has spelling and grammatical errors are a reflection of the author's intelligence and their regard for their readers.
Surprisingly however, the world is not getting dumber. I read somewhere recently that the average IQ (North America I think) is actually going up. Could be that the world is just getting smaller and the idiots are coming out of the wood-work.

That is pretty darn amazing. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is anal about spelling.
